Many times in NASCAR Winston Cup, you hear of a new Crew Chief being named. Guys like Zipadelli, Elledge, Makar. Where did they come from? Did they jump right into Cup? How did they reach the top level of the sport?

I have had the priviledge over the past few months of hanging around with Scott Fetcho, who is currently the Body Fabricator and Car Chief on the #27 Montgomery Motorsports ARCA race team with driver Chase Montgomery. Scott's competitive edge and desire to win make him one of the hardest working guys in the ARCA garage.

Scott also drives the Fetcho Motorsports #89 Supertruck, with the help of Peter Marcum, at Nashville Fairgrounds and is currently the Point leader. Scott somehow found time to do an interview with me.

1) With this being your first full season with Chase Montgomery and it is also his first season, how would you rate the team and yourself?

We have a very good outfit. Now we just need to work on using it to the best of its ability. I rate us now at a 7 but after we get a few more races under our belt, I feel we will ultimately be a perfect 10.

2) Congrats on being the point leader in the Supertruck division at Nashville Fairgrounds. Do you consider yourself better at driving or setting up the cars?

I definitely consider myself a better mechanic than driver. I really believe that I got into this sport because of my love for working on race cars rather than driving them. Dont get me wrong, I love to drive but I dont believe that I have the talent that some of these drivers out here trying to make it do.

3) Guys like Jeremy Mayfield got their start in Winston Cup by working at the shop for other teams and eventually working their way in. Could you see yourself as a full time driver in ARCA or even NASCAR someday?

That is not what I am pushing for, but if the opportunity ever came up, I would definitely not turn it down.

4) The first 2 races this year for ARCA were at Daytona and Atlanta. I was there, kind of helping, mostly staying out of the way. You guys had bad luck. I didn't go to Nashville and you guys ran up front and finished 5th. Will I ever be allowed back?

Of course. We had made some personnel changes after the Atlanta race. Us not finishing well in Daytona and Atlanta had nothing to do with luck, it had to do with carelessness. You have an open invitation any time you would like to come.

5) Montgomery Motorsports has been renting a Pit Crew from 5off5on. I hear these guys gave you great pit stops this week. How would you rate the crew's performance?

They were flawless. We beat Frank Kimmel out of the pits every time we pitted, but Kimmel was unbeatable on the track. He was in a class of his own.

6) I hear you were on "You gotta see this" on Fox. That show features crashes and wild action. What was your moment of "fame"?

I had an incident in a Legend car which the final result was a car flipping numerous times, knocking down a billboard and landing in the parking lot. I want to stress that it wasnt my fault, but then again drivers rarely ever admit that they were to blame in a racing incident.

7) What goals, personally, do you have for yourself this year with Chase's team?

Our realistic goal is rookie of the year and top 5 in points. We would like to believe that we have the ability to win races and I think that we should have won Daytona. I still get sick just thinking about it.

8) How many races are you planning on running this year, driving your Supertruck, and could that expand?

We are going to try and run a full season and go for the points. There has been talk of possibly running some outside events but nothing written in stone yet.

9) If you ever become a famous NASCAR Crew Chief, can I work for you?

Absolutely!!!

10) You moved to Nashville for a reason other than racing... care to elaborate?

I play guitar and tried to make a career of it. Needless to say, I have a tendency of learning things the hard way. It is harder to make it in music than some people think. Especially in Nashville. People are willing to play for nothing here.

11)How tough is the racing schedule on your family life and do you think the Cup guys are facing too demanding a schedule?

It is tough being away from home but I have a very supportive wife who enjoys racing also. I do believe that the cup guys have a very demanding schedule, but they are also paid enough to have a demanding schedule.

12) With drafting being important at Talladega and Chase being a Rookie. Do you think Ray will let you drive a backup car to help Chase draft?

I wish but I highly doubt it. We definitely dont need two tore up race cars. I have been known to be a little rough on equipment. I crashed 8 out of 22 races last year and still finished 8th in points in the Supertruck. We ran really good but had some bad luck.

So, as the title of this article says, "Scott Fetcho: Remember the Name". Someday soon when you see him on top of a Winston Cup Pit Box celebrating his first victory as a Crew Chief, you can tell your friends, "I know about that guy...... I remember the name."

Thanks to Scott for the time!
